Pros:

Nice reaction, smells nice, gentle hook for beginners

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Really nice ball for a beginner

I was joining a league for the first time and needed a ball. I looked around online and only found positive reviews of this ball for beginners. Didn’t expect it to actually smell like cherry, which it still does two years later. The hook potential is low but it gives a nice controllable introduction to hooking a ball.

Pros:

predicable, even roll to the pocket

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great down and in bowling ball. Very predictable and has a nice even arc to the pocket.

This ball is so nice. Thank goodness for this company that provided me with a 13 lb while no-one seemed to have that weight anywhere.

As advertised

First time using was better than expected on light oil lane, hook was good nice control. Second use was on much more oiled lane almost no hook with inconsistent control. Pretty much as advertised.

Question:

Is there any difference in hooking potential between the Hybrid Black Cherry and the other tropical surges?

11/25/2019 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The only difference is that two options are hybrid coverstocks and the others are pearl coverstocks. The Pearl coverstocks will go just a little bit longer on the lane than the hybrids but they are very close.

Question:

Can you tell me if this ball is only capable of throwing hooks, or can it shoot straight as well.

1/1/2020 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

If you throw this ball without any spin on it then it would go straight. It is only when the ball has spin on it and when it is thrown in lighter oil conditions when this ball would have hook potential.

Question:

Will this hook automatically or do you have to curve it

3/6/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

You would have to throw the ball with rotation for the ball to hook. If you throw the ball straight with no rotation then it will go straight.

Question:

How can I get this custom fitted to my hand

3/7/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The basic conventional drilling that we have is in preset sizes so you can choose from the sizes if one is close to your hand measurements. If you do not like the drilling sizes offered you could get the ball drilled at your local proshop and they would measure you there to get a custom fit.

7/27/2022 - By

Question:

Does the 10 or 11 pound versions have a weight block? If no, how will this affect the hook potential?

11/30/2022 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The 10 and 11lb versions will not have a performance weight block so the hook potential is entirely based on the coverstock. This will cause the lighter weight bowling balls to not drive as strong and not have as much hook potential.

Question:

How similar is this ball to the blue coral venom

9/16/2023 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Tropical Surge is considered in the entry performance category which is one step down from the mid performance category that the Coral Venom is in so it will have a slightly lower hook potential. Both have good length with a good backend hook but it has a lower hook potential than the Coral Venom.
