The hole that it goes into will need to be rounded and smoothed out. You don't need to do that to the insert.

On this insert you are selecting the inner diameter of the hole. If this was a slug it would list the sizes based on the outer diameter of the slug but since this item is an insert, it is sized based on the inner diameter of the insert.

If you have an interchangeable thumb that accepts thumb inserts then this should work. If your interchangeable thumb is a slug then you would not be able to insert this into the slug unfortunately.
