Ultimate Defender

The Brunswick Ultimate Defender is much more controllable than the OG Defender Hybrid! However, this ball is exactly what the Defender series needed. This ball takes surface perfectly and lane shines to a point where you get the ball motion of the OG. This is a great 1-2 punch with Ultimate Defender to start and eventually transition to the OG Defender Hybrid if you need that extra ball!! 🙃😉… why buy one, when you get two great balls!

Better with Polish

Out of the box it was a too early and didn't do much on the backend, but once polish was added, it became a whole new ball!! Looks great on the fresh, able to play multiple angles and doesn't even think about leaving a corner pin. Really starting to love it and is a staple in my bag.

Love this Defender

800 out of the box with this ball. The Ultimate Defender will be the first ball out of my bag on medium to heavy patterns. With the same core as the original Defender and a hybrid HK22 cover at 2000, I can get this ball into a roll early and still hook on the backend.

Pros:

Controllable, Keeps surface, looks great

Cons:

Downlane oil

Best Uses:

House shot, the burn

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

A great medium solid

The Ultimate Defender is the long awaited follow-up to the Defender Hybrid. I was very excited as soon as I saw it because the Defender Hybrid has a special place in my heart. OOB, this is a ball that really compliments that kind of motion being much smoother and controllable overall. When there is friction to the right or I need to control the backend motion better, this ball is a great option in my bag.

Pros:

good ball out of the box, for me it got even better with a little polish

Best Uses:

heavier oil, fresh conditions, longer patterns, any pattern with polish.

Bottom Line:

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Powerful Bowling Ball

Out of the box this ball looked like it was blending the pattern. On a fresh house pattern it may have been too much for the early outside friction but worked well staying to the inside in the oil. The next week after adding some polish, this ball could be a must have in the bag. It is working so well in the oil, in the friction and not having issues with corner pins. This will increase the power in your bag.

A Responsive Oil Ball

The Ultimate Defender is a very strong ball. It is a combination of the best parts of the previous two Defender series releases. This one is earlier than the Defender Solid but later than the Defender Hybrid. I find this ball to cover more boards than both. It slots in between the Perfect Mindset and the Mindset in the current lineup. This one is more responsive down the lane than both of those balls with a fairly quick move at the breakpoint. Out of the box it needs Oil. It worked best for me with a smoother surface. I decided to leave it at 4000 grit so that I could use it more during league play. Overall, the Defender Hybrid is a great responsive option on oilier lanes.

Ultimate defender is going to need some oil

Ultimate defender wow this ball is really good but it’s going to need some oil. If it’s perfectly between the mindset in the perfect mindset. I drilled mine.50x5x25. With that layout I got a nice smooth motion through the front of the lane with a strong motion on the back.

Pros:

Nice shape & carry

Best Uses:

Will be good for House & sport conditions.

Bottom Line:

Brunswick Ultimate Defender

The Brunswick Ultimate Defender has nice roll shape & continuation. You want to avoid getting too deep on the lane. If you have to get to 4th or 5th arrow, I think there are better options for getting up the hill and kicking corners. The dull surface picks up in the oil nicely. Keep your angles in front of you and this ball will shine.

Question:

What does hybrid mean

2/10/2024 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

Hi Vic! The coverstock is a hybrid reactive resin, HK22 - A.C.T. 3.0 Hybrid Reactive, which combines solid and pearl compounds.

Question:

how does the retired mastermind scholar compare to the brunswick- ultimate-defender hybrid

3/7/2024 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Ultimate Defender Hybrid is designed with a hybrid coverstock and duller out-of-box finish which help the ball to read more in the midlane for a smoother arcing hook. This ball works well in heavier oil conditions and will have a higher overall hook potential than the Mastermind Scholar. The Mastermind Scholar was designed to give you more length for a more angular backend hook and because it reads later it is more suite for medium to heavy oil.

Question:

I'm a ninety year old with a 157 average using a Storm Hy Road thinking of a new ball What would recomend?

3/19/2024 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

Hi Stu! The Brunswick Ultimate Defender Hybrid ball could be a suitable choice depending on several factors. The high performance Brunswick Ultimate Defender Hybrid is designed for heavy oil conditions so if your lanes are primarily lighter oil conditions, you may find the ball too aggressive for their game. If you like a moderate reaction such as the Storm Hy-Road, I would suggest the Ebonite Game Breaker 4 Hybrid, Motiv Blue Coral Venom, or Storm The Road.

Question:

How does the Hybrid Defender compare to the Hybrid Prism, 14 lbs.?

4/11/2024 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

Both bowling balls are high performance and both have hybrid reactive coverstocks but the weight block on the Ultimate Defender Hybrid is a little stronger and the duller finish help this ball read earlier on the lane and work more in heavy oil while the compound finish on the Prism Hybrid gave it more length and it worked better in medium oil conditions.

Question:

How does the Ultimate Defender compare to the Prism Warp?

6/29/2024 - By

Have an answer to this question?

Answer:

The Ultimate Defender will give you slightly more length due to the hybrid coverstock and weight block than the Prism Warp (solid coverstock). Also the Ultimate Defender has a strong overall hook potential so this helps it handle heavier oil than the Prism Warp.
