USA, Japan lead team qualifying at World Youth

With the first three games of team qualifying at the 2014 World Youth Championships completed, the United States boys and Japan girls top the standings.

Team qualifying will conclude Wednesday with the final three games and the top four boys teams and top four girls teams will advance to the medal round Wednesday evening at the SCAA Bowling Center. All rounds are being broadcast live on BOWL.com's BowlTV.

The U.S. boys got off to a shaky start but rebounded to take the lead with a three-game total of 2,573. They shot just 756 in the opening game but came back with games of 917 and 900.

Greg Young led the way with a 679 series, Kamron Doyle shot 651, Wesley Low had 650 and Matthew Farber shot 593.

Malaysia sits in second place with 2,492, Peru is third with 2,476 and Germany is fourth with 2,473.

Japan leads the women with 2,502, while Finland is second with 2,477. Malaysia is third with 2,402 and Sweden sits in fourth with 2,371. Junior Team USA is sixth with 2,316.

In the all-events standings with three games to go, Low leads the boys with 3,543 (230.2 average), while Doyle is second with 3,331. Jesper Svensson of Sweden is third with 3,326.

Shion Izumune of Japan leads the women's all-events with 3,262 (217.47 average) with Mary Wells of the USA in second with 3,101. Junior Team USA's Liz Kuhlkin is third with 3,098.

A total of 262 bowlers from 46 countries are competing in the World Youth Championships, which awards medals in singles, doubles, team, all-events and Masters.
