The Two Hander from Down UnderAfter the excitement of the World Cup in South Africa, it warrants another look at that “lad” from Orange, New South Wales. Jason Belmonte has been named the November 2011 Kegel Bowler of the Month by the Bowling Writers Association of America. He won a record three titles in the Professional Bowlers Association's World Series of Bowling (WSOB) in Las Vegas. In the span of 16 days, the 2011 Bowling ESPY award winner captured his second, third, and fourth PBA titles. His career so far has been wonderful but really that isn’t what people still discuss on bowling league night. That discussion turns to his 2 handed throw.

His story is fun. He practically grew up in a bowling ally. His mother and father built one just a few weeks after his was born. He picked up his first bowling ball at 18 months. He describes, “I have practiced/bowled now since 1984, (and) bowling is like riding a bike for me. I’ll never forget how to do it and I have bowled so much in that time that bowling is so natural to me, even though I bowl much differently to everyone else, it feels ‘right’. I had to learn a different way to bowl to lift such a heavy ball. When you’re 18 months old and the lightest bowling ball you have is 10lbs, you begin to become creative in ways to roll a ball. Some use ramps, others would get help from older and stronger people, my way was 2 handed. This 2 handed style would become an iconic style and it would elevate me and my career to the highest level.”

It is part of the beauty of any sport. There is a way to play and then an anomaly spices things up. Jason now has a World Cup trophy in his extensive trophy case or room! Way to go Jason. Hey maybe when you are bowling with the kids this holiday season, try a bit of Jason’s style. And check out which Storm bowling ball he used on www.jasonbelmonte.com
