College football teams set to go bowling, yes we mean bowlingBowling is one of the charity events surrounding this year’s Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. What is a potato bowl? It isn’t what is for dinner, but rather the annual football Bowl Game that takes place in Boise, Idaho. This year the game is on December 17th and Utah State will play Ohio University. The bowling event scheduled is called Strikes for Spuds. This event was formerly known as Bowl for Beef but was changed to reflect the change in prizes! Teams face off against each other in a bowling event for local charities. For each pin knocked down by players, two pounds of potato product will be donated by Simplot and other processors to local charities.

TurbinThis is not the only charitable event going on during bowl week. There will be a BowlFest annual gala dinner, silent auction, awards dinners, and even breakfasts for fans and players. We feel the highlight will be the Strikes for Spuds but the football players will also be participating in a community outreach program for local hospitals. Later, both teams will host the Humanitarian Awards Dinner and will honor certain members of the community for their service.

This will be an exciting week for football and bowlers alike in Boise, Idaho. Mostly it just reminds us that bowling plays a special role in our communities and is a fun way to raise money and give back. So have fun at the Potato Bowl and a great time at the alley!

Players from Utah State are excited about the both the football bowl and the actual bowling part. Check out the comments from two Utah State stars, and future NFL prospects Robert Turbin #6 and Spencer Wagner #9.

One of the team events is the "Spuds for Strikes Bowling Event," which Turbin and Wagner are both looking forward to.

Wagner"I haven't been bowling in a while, so that'll be fun," Turbin said. "Hopefully, I can get over 200. Bobby and I will probably end up competing a little bit. He's got a little bit of a bowling game. We'll see who comes out on top at the end of the bowling tournament." Wagner doesn't lack for confidence when it comes to bowling, that's for sure. "I'm pretty good," he said. "I can throw a couple of strikes here and there. It doesn't matter how pretty it is as long as you come out with the W. That's my motto."
